|An opportunity has arisen in a dynamic start-up for a Chief Financial Officer to lead on the development of financial systems and processes, provide financial stewardship and report to the Executive Team and investors on financial health and performance.|
Given their nature as a start-up, this will be a hands-on job with tasks ranging from operational topics to questions of high strategic importance. You will report to the Executive member responsible for finance and investments.
More specifically, your tasks will include:
*Lead the establishment and development of financial systems to effectively support the steering of the business
*Ensure efficient and accurate financial reporting on topics such as management accounts, forecasting, cash flow, project economics, and payroll as well as staff utilization
*Actively monitor the financial performance and health of the business and develop, propose and run initiatives that improve the economic stewardship (costs, revenues, cash management)
*Supervise, and where necessary, produce financial reports for investors and ensure reports comply with specifications and deadlines
*Lead the budget process, consolidating input from platforms and internal functions
*Support lead partners in financial planning and controlling of advisory and investment projects
*Provide robust documented advice on the risk management for the organisation, taking into account client/donor/investor risk, expenditure forecasting, reserve policy etc.
*Oversee the implementation of internal financial controls
*Manage relationships with accountants as well as auditors for high quality and timely service
*Manage banking relationships, including effectively managing bank accounts in various foreign currencies and across countries
Operations, Compliance, Procurement
*Ensure that offices are compliant with financial requirements in country (currently, UK and Germany, other likely to follow over the next months)
*Keep abreast of relevant compliance issues (including requirements for audits) and anticipate and deal with risk management issues
*Assist in the negotiation of large procurement items and contractual requirements, and to ensure compliance with the finance manual for all other procurement items
*(To be decided based on candidate profile and evolution of the company) oversee operational areas such as IT, office/location management

The qualification, skillset and experience we would like to see
*Bachelor or Master's degree in Finance/Accounting/Controlling or similar
*A recognized professional qualification as Accountant
*10+ years of work experience in finance/accounting/controlling functions with high responsibility
*Strong entrepreneurial skills and the determination to get things done in a dynamic context with emerging structures
*Dedication to high-quality work and attention to details
*Proven skills to communicate and interact with senior leaders in the investment and finance community
*(Ideally) experience in leading the finances of a start-up company
*(Ideally) experience in working with the software packages Xero and/or WorkFlowMax
