This is a new role reporting to the Finance Manager, with lots of opportunities to grow with the business and thrive in a fast paced expanding environment.
The finance team currently has responsibility for the accounting on approx. 150 small entities within the media sector.
o Ensuring the daily postings are done timely and accurately o Updating purchase ledgers, sales ledgers, general ledgers daily o Bank reconciliations
Accounts Payable: Processing payments and updating internal tracking schedules
Credit control: Raising sales invoices and assisting in monitoring and chasing debtors and producing daily/weekly debtors report
Dealing with post e.g. bank statements, HMRC correspondence
The successful candidate will be supporting the Finance Team in all areas of the day to day finance function which will include:
Preparing VAT registrations for new companies Liaising with the bank on new accounts opening, amendment forms, etc Opening FX accounts for new companies Liaising with FX broker on foreign currency payments Assisting with Government Gateway accounts maintenance Assist in producing daily cash reports Assist in producing ad hoc finance reports as requested Assist in dealing with queries from HMRC, creditors, bank, etc. Assist in the preparation and submission of VAT returns Assist in the preparation annual and semi-annual investment statements for investors
Experience This role suits someone who has bookkeeping and/or finance assistant experience, having previously worked within accounting/finance function and looking for a role to develop or broaden their finance experience. The ideal candidate needs to be comfortable working in a fast paced and changing environment and be a team player.
Experience working in an accounting or similar role Fast learner and can-do attitude with ability to use initiative (essential) Strict attention to detail and accuracy (essential)
Working experience in Xero or other accounting software (advantage): o Posting general ledgers o Preparing and running VAT returns o Working knowledge on posting journals, prepayments and accruals
Experience in processing domestic and international payments (advantage) Exposure or experience in dealing with foreign currency payments (advantage) Skills Extensive knowledge of MS Excel Strong MS Word skills Experience in handing large volumes of data Strong inter-personal skills and excellent communication skills Be able to manage their own time well and be highly organised Able to communicate fluently and professionally in English, both verbally and in writing Is a pro-active team player
If the Finance Assistant is studying towards an AAT or ACCA qualification, GPM will support their study.
